New Administrators


Linnel Rucker joins LPA as the Dean of Students this July. She holds a National Board Certificate for Teaching, Chaired the Positive Behavioral Intervention Program at St. Louis Public Schools and was recognized by St. Louis Post Dispatch as being a “Super Star Teacher”. Linnel Rucker successfully assisted a declining St. Louis Public School with meeting AYP, MAP Scores, discipline and attendance expectations. Linnel holds an undergraduate degree in Christian Education, a certificate of TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages), Teacher Certification as well as a Masters Degree in Business Administration. Linnel is currently pursuing her Ed.D in Curriculum and Instruction. Linnel has over 20 years of extensive experience in Executive Leadership, Sales, Business to Business Development and Marketing in the Financial Services/Banking industry and Educational field. Linnel was also recognized as Woman Of The Year from a Fortune 500 Corporation. Linnel Rucker is passionate about the equality of education for all children no matter their ethnicity or socioeconomic status.

New Teachers


Sarah Demezier joins LPA as a Kindergarten teacher.  Sarah was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York. She is Haitian and speaks Haitian Creole fluently. Sarah attended Stony Brook University where she received a BA in English. Four years ago, Sarah moved to St. Louis and started her career as an Early childhood educator with the support of Teach For America-St. Louis. Sarah worked at Sigel Elementary as a preschool teacher for 3 years. During her time at Sigel, she gained her MEd in Early Childhood Education at University of Missouri-St. Louis. Ms. Demezier says, “I absolutely love teaching young children and cannot wait to continue to do so with Kindergarten!”

Morefield, Sarah

Sarah Morefield is excited to join the Lafayette Prep Academy team for the 2015-2016 school year! Sarah graduated from Butler University in 2011 with her license in Early and Middle Childhood Education and K-12 Mild/Moderate Cross Categorical. Sarah has spent the last 4 years teaching in North St Louis at City Academy and North Side Elementary school. While she has been in a general education setting, Sarah is so excited for an opportunity to finally join the Special Education team. When she’s not teaching, Sarah is working on her KC summer camp, hanging out with friends, or in the park with her dog Adie.

Christy Murphy is excited to be working with students and families at LPA next year. She has been teaching 3rd grade scholars at Humboldt Academy of Higher Learning for the last three years. Christy first began working in Saint Louis Public Schools as a Program Director with UrbanFUTURE, coordinating mentors and tutors for students in Fanning Middle School and Mann Elementary. This experience led her to pursue her M.A.T. in elementary education through Lindenwood University so that she could spend more time in the classroom directly impacting student achievement. After student teaching in Maplewood-Richmond Heights, Christy was accepted into Teach for America. Christy spent a summer teaching in Chicago Public Schools and is a proud graduate of William Jewell College. Her unwavering belief in the special gifts of every student drives her teaching every single day. Christy lives in Tower Grove with her husband, toddler, and pug.


New Counselor


Brianne Overton is a licensed professional counselor (LPC) that specializes in child and adolescent counseling. She is currently pursuing a doctoral degree at University of Missouri – St. Louis in counselor education and supervision. Briann has two Master’s degrees; one in Thanatology from Hood College and the second in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the University of Missouri – St. Louis.

As the school counselor, Brianne is here as part of a team working with parents, school staff, and community resources to help make school a caring and supportive place for our children. She will work to help students overcome barriers to their progress in their academic, social, and emotional growth by providing individual and small group counseling, fostering positive peer relationships, providing classroom guidance. She enjoys working with students and having the opportunity to make a positive difference in the lives of children. Ms. Overton is looking forwarding to the upcoming school year!
