Our Sponsor – UMSL

All charter schools are held accountable in many of the same ways traditional public schools are held accountable. As a different public school model, however, there are accountability mechanisms unique to charter schools.  One of those mechanisms is that charter schools operate under a contract, referred to as the “charter,” with a public entity such as a state university or state department, referred to as the charter school’s “sponsor.”

The charter outlines specific academic and non-academic outcomes to which the sponsor holds the charter school accountable.  A charter school must have a sponsor in order to open and continue operating.  Lafayette Preparatory Academy is fortunate to have the University of Missouri-St. Louis (UMSL) as its sponsor.
