Mayra Taylor Garcia is a dedicated advocate for educational equity and workforce development in St. Louis. Originally from Mexico, she now proudly calls St. Louis home.

Mayra began her career as a high school biology teacher in the St. Louis Public Schools, where she saw firsthand the systemic challenges within the education system. After four years in the classroom, she transitioned to the nonprofit sector, focusing on expanding equitable access to high-quality STEM education and employment opportunities in the St. Louis region.

Currently, Mayra leads Education to Workforce initiatives at BioSTL, collaborating with a dedicated team to drive systems-level change and strengthen the region’s innovation ecosystem. She believes that meaningful economic mobility in St. Louis must be rooted in a strong and inclusive education system—one of the many reasons she is proud to support Lafayette Preparatory Academy’s mission.

Beyond her professional work, Mayra serves on the board of Hispanic Festival, Inc., which organizes the annual Hispanic Festival in Soulard each September. In her free time, she enjoys DIY projects, jogging in Forest Park, and spending time with her husband and their two children.
